814 Day of Action
Join us for 814 Day on August 14th, a community-wide Day of Action dedicated to bringing individuals, businesses, and organizations together in service to strengthen the Bradford area. On 814 Day, volunteers will take part in meaningful projects that support local nonprofits, community spaces, and neighbors in need, helping to create a visible and lasting impact across our region. Whether you are signing up as an individual, a team, or a workplace group, there are a variety of ways to get involved and make a difference. If your location is unable to participate on-site, we also encourage internal community projects such as collection drives to still contribute to the effort. Registration is now open. 814 Day of Action FAQs
What kind of projects will I be doing?
Each project is specific to the nonprofit that is seeking volunteers, but the tasks usually fall within the following perimeters:

Do I need to be there all day?
No, you have the option to volunteer for 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours, or a full day (8 hours).
If you are only available to work a 1/2 day, you can select AM or PM hours.
I didn't sign up because I am not sure of my schedule. Can I arrive on the day of to help?
In order to provide the best experience for our volunteers, we ask everyone to register in advance so that our committee can match your interests with the available opportunities. While you are welcome to come on the day of the event, and we will do our best to place you, we strongly recommend you register in advance, if at all possible.

I want to volunteer somewhere specific, can I?
There is a section in the online volunteer sign-up form where you can note a preference you may have to be placed at a certain nonprofit. While we cannot guarantee placement (especially if they did not sign up for a project site that year), we will do our very best to prioritize your preference.
How far will I have to go to volunteer?
We do our best to match volunteers to their preferred location based on the information provided in the application form. While our committee works hard to balance the needs of both volunteers and project sites, there may be some travel involved. We aim to keep commute times within 15 minutes whenever possible.
Transportation will not be provided.
What if my organization/business wanted to volunteer on the day of but we also have project needs and would like to register as a project site as well?
You are more than welcome to participate as both a group of volunteers and also register as a project site.
You will need to complete two separate registration forms. One form for your group of volunteers and another as the organization to register your project site or volunteer needs.
What do I need on the day of the event?
On the day of the event…

Make sure you’ve completed and signed your Volunteer Release Form.

Wear your commemorative Day of Action t-shirt (sponsored by Georgia Pacific). You can either pick it up in advance or on August 14th at check-in, along with your goodie bag.

Check the weather and dress appropriately. Make sure to wear sunscreen if you will be working outdoors.

Make sure you have appropriate gear. We will provide protective gear in your goodie bag. We suggest wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and sneakers or work boots.

Bring your water bottle, a snack and/or a packed lunch.

Take lots of photos! You can email them to sarah.lonzi@uwbanews.org or if you post them to social media, please use hashtag #814DayofAction and tag us so we can share them!
And most importantly… HAVE FUN!
Do I need to bring anything on the day of the event?
Please dress appropriately for the weather and consider whether you will be outside or indoors for the majority of the day.
We suggest wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and sneakers or work boots.
Please bring any additional tools or personal items (such as medications and extra water) that you may need throughout the day.
Unless specifically asked, the tools you need will be provided by the project coordinator at your work site.
Are you providing lunch?
We suggest bringing a packed lunch in a cooler.
